We use a unique ranking system here at Stop Wasting Your Wine to evaluate and rate wines. Instead of the conventional point-based rating system, we ask the question, “Where are we putting this wine?”
Our ranking system is simple, but effective. We place each wine into one of four locations, each location signifying how much we enjoyed, or didn’t enjoy, the wine. The highest honor is reserved for wines that we like the most and are worthy of a place in our wine fridge. This is where we keep the best of the best, the crème de la crème, the wines that we can’t wait to share with our friends and family. We only have 3 spots in our wine fridge. These wine fridge wines can be replaced as we find new and exciting wine so keep checking back to see what wine is in our fridges today.
Next, we have the wines that are good quality and enjoyable but not quite at the level of our wine fridge. These are the wines we want people to drink and enjoy, and they belong on our kitchen table. The kitchen table is where we gather with friends and family to share good food, good conversation, and good wine.
Moving down the ranking, we have the closet. These are the wines that aren’t great, but they’re not terrible either. They’re just okay. They might not be our first choice, but we wouldn’t turn them down either. They’re the wines we keep in the closet, ready to pull out for a casual night in or as a back up after a couple bottles of the kitchen table and wine fridge wines have already been consumed.
Finally, we have the sink. This is reserved for the wines that are just plain terrible. The ones that make us cringe and regret opening the bottle. These are the wines that we wouldn’t want anybody to drink, and they belong in the sink, never to be consumed again.
We believe that our ranking system provides a more honest and relatable approach to wine reviews. It’s not about arbitrary points or technical jargon; it’s about where the wine fits into our lives and how we enjoy it. So join us on our wine-tasting journey as we explore the world of wine, one location at a time.
